Yes, human know-how is essential to positive external mobility, and lack of it, will continue to create the problems that threaten the very systems of excellence in performance and ultimately to economic sustainability. What has been missing is a recognition of priorities. The human being cannot be satisfied by external success alone, nor should he have to fail by the inevitable ups and downs of external results. The inner game can be won independent of the outer game. It is not a means alone; humans have always longed for what is real and what is changeless in their quest to satisfy their inherent need for happiness, peace, fulfillment, whatever names are given to winning the inner game while. We want to be at peace, we want to be content, irrespective of the changes in our external circumstances. Ultimately we want to win the inner game, and learn from both the successes and failures, inevitable in the outer, out of our control.

In short the outer endeavors play a great role in our evolution. But as we come to recognize who and what we are at the core, we seek to connect with the changeless element that has always been very present within us, waiting to be recognized and valued. I give one one example, how valuable at our birth was our first breath, and how valuable towards our last of moments again is that same force that has been keeping us alive all life long? Is it a gift of love? Is it from the changeless in life? Is it not responsible for everything beautiful and precious in our limited years on the planet. Does it have something to do with Winning the inner game, available to each of us. Can this simple force of life itself, recognized for what it is give us more appreciation and gratitude in our existence than we can imagine. IF the definition of wealth, it having something extremely precious and lots of it, is our life itself that source of all inner prosperity without limit?

I have never written much about what lead me to recognize and commit to the inner game. In short what lead me to it was a period of utter confusion and despair where Self 1 seemed to be in total control and had convinced me I was helpless, hopeless, and worthless. I not only felt it, I intellectually accepted it as truth, and it manifested first within, and then without. Unsure from early childhood of my nature, I compensated by pursuing what I was told was good, including being good at what I put my mind to, including, tennis, golf, grades, status, and even girl friends – anything that would serve to prove I wasn’t as “bad” as some feeling or lack of feeling, convinced me I was. In short I became increasingly disconnected from myself and my ambitions to prove myself driven my doubt and deep fear, gradually turned from success to utter failure – the opposite of all my ideals became my reality. It was just at the beginning of recovery I was offered a job as a tennis pro, an inspire of my conviction I could buy phentermine fast shipping never hold the job, I accepted.

I strung tennis racquets, bought and sold ladies tennis dresses, and on occasion gave group or individual tennis lessons following the current model of teaching the correct behaviors and giving “feedback” on the incorrect. Clinging to the few things I could still do, I made a start to emerge from my dark period, longed to be as I used to be, and much to my surprise became someone entirely different, teaching myself as I taught and learned from my students the value of awareness, without judgment, true in oneself, and clarity of choice, some of the foundations of the Inner Game which when I saw their results in performance, learning, and enjoyment of students wrote seven books about the simple applications of these skills as well as a theoretical structure that held all the elements together and directed them towards one goal: Mobility – the ability to move or be moved in the direction of one’s denied outcomes in a fulfilling way and in a time frame that was acceptable. I leaned from teaching students that the common method of teaching was antiquated when it came to most skill and development of qualities, to say nothing of determination, and learning from experience.

Once the door was opened the progress in the inner game of tennis was immediate and ongoing. In three months, students were telling me what was already realizing, that performance, learning, and enjoyment were part of one things, could be “coached” with reliable results, and applied to almost any external endeavor with success. Some leading executives who took lessons realized that this was a different and effective way of bringing about desire change and the corporate level. When asked, by one of them “what does the inner game actually do.” I didn’t have a ready answered, but reflected on my experience and replied: it consistently does three things simultaneously, increases performance, accelerates learning, and greatly enriches enjoyment of the activity. And during this discovery I was participating in all those results; I was the one that needed them most.

I found something in me I could trust, and then when I did all three of those results occurred at once. I even felt guilty that while using this approach, I was learning more even than my students about learning, was enjoying the process even more than they, and at the end they were paying me happily and with gratitude even though it was they who did the learning, and I just created the environment which sought to eliminate judgment,, fear, and doubt my own nemesis. A foundation was being built in me that had me recognize the forces of good were fundamental in a human being, if you ignored what got in the way of them. I was coaching students and learning from my experience what worked and what interfered. I came back to life in a few months. What came to called the inner game was a gift to students, but primarily a gift to me that I committed to take care of and develop it’s potential.

There is something worthy to be called winning the inner game. Something like the ultimate quest, that can be accomplished while still alive. And the outer game will continue and can in fact help us evolve as human beings as well as produce products and profits. People who play the outer games are more important than the games they play. Inner ultimately leads outer.

The Inner Game is only the foundation I found it my particular circumstances and it still has much to do. But while I do it, my priority is to keep connected to what is real within yourself. Everyone is the same and everyone is different. So it’s not my Inner Game that is most important but for each to discover their own, Inner Game is still available to help as it is invited to help, but is not the authority in the matter. You alone are. I’m proud to open the door or shine what light or clarity I can, but each of us has the authority of our own choice to learn and find the possibilities in both realms inner and outer and to figure out what in most important to them.

So that’s my pre-amble to the new inner game. There can be many contributors, and winning the inner game is not exclusive. There are practical ways to win in each domain, and I plan to keep rowing my boat in both oceans for the benefit of myself which gives me the chance to benefit other human beings. My bottom line is to feel constantly grateful to have such an opportunity in todays world. In my vision there will be many who benefit, all of will remain learners tim the end, and there will be many who will want to contribute what they learn about the dance between the inner and the outer – the ultimate human dance.

“There are more players that have the talent to be the best in the world than there are winners,” says Timothy Gallwey, the author of several books about the mental side of tennis, golf, and other pursuits. “One way of looking at it is that winners get in their own way less. They interfere with the raw expression of talent less. And to do that, first they win the war against fear, against doubt, against insecurity—which are no minor victories.”

Many years ago, I watched Tim “teaching” a woman to play tennis for the first time. Though she had difficulty touching the ball with her racket initially, within twenty minutes, she was carrying on sustained rallies with Gallwey, like someone who had played tennis for years. It was the most stunning example of tapping intrinsic capacity to learn I had ever seen.
